Kailash Kora with an acclimatization Trek inside Nepal

The mega-earthquake of 2015 severely destroyed the infrastructure and topography around the official border check-point “friendship-border” between Nepal and China that was at Tatopani, Kodari and thus the border has been closed since then till date.

After the closure of friend-ship border, the government of China and Nepal has agreed to open alternative check-points, so that the citizens of two countries and tourists from abroad desiring to travel through overland drive, can travel across Nepal and Tibet without flight. After several conferences and meeting; both the governments have made a decision to open new border in Timure (Rasuwa district of Nepal) and Gyirong (also popularly known as Kerung) of Tibet. This border has been officially declared as the border check-point between Nepal and China plus it is being developed as an international access point from China to South Asia. Now, we have started to organize mountaineering expedition and tours to Tibet from the year of 2018.

The overland drive through new border to Kailash has limited scope for High Altitude Acclimatization because we directly move between significant differences in elevation from Kerung (3000m) to Saga (4620m). Hence, we have extended a trek going up to Gosaikunda Lake at 4380m especially for new journeyers to Himalayas, considering the need of perfect high altitude acclimatization for them. By this manner of travel; the journey to Kailash could be safe and more interesting for new visitors in the Himalayas. The Gosaikunda Lake (4380m) is situated in Nepal en-route to new border.

The Holy Lake, Gosaikunda, is inside the Langtang National Park that is surrounded by breathtaking panoramas of Himalayan range including the views of Manaslu 8163m, Ganesh Himal 7422m, Langtang Lirung 7,245m, Dorje Lakpa 6,988m and so on. Langtang National Park was established in 1976 as the first Himalayan national park of Nepal linking to the Chhomolungma National Park of Tibet, China. The Gosainkunda Lake and the Mt. Dorje Lhakpa divide up the park from East-West to South-East. The summit 7,245m of Mt. Langtang Lirung is the highest elevation of the park. The park preserves various flora and fauna observable during the trek.

Thousands of Buddhist and Hindu Pilgrims from Nepal, India and other countries visit the Lake during the Janai Purnima (Thread Festival); however, the lake is equally popular throughout the year for pilgrimage and as an adventurous destination. It is believed that people who are frequently stressed get relief once they visit on foot to the Lake. The lake consists of other beautiful and spiritual lakes including Bhairav Kunda, Naag Kunda and so on.

This package of pilgrimage has been popular soon after new border opened from the 1st January 2018. Now, Chinese hoteliers have built adequate number of guesthouses in Kerung Bazaar of Tibet; 26 kilometers away from border and they are providing comfortable accommodation and meals to their guests. So, the trip doesn’t require tented camp unless demanded by journeyers. The pretty town, Kerung, is suitable to take rest plus acclimatize local environment. Hence, we have designed the itinerary giving a full day stay in this place. After the Kerung Bazaar, the drive leads to enthralling sites of panoramic landscape embracing the incredible views of Himalayas, crystal-clear alpine lakes, beautiful Tibetan settlement, and nomad camps.

Eventually, we enter the pious parts of this journey comprising the Manasarovar Tal (the lake of the paragon of virtue and purification), Rakshas Tal (the lake of supreme spirit of evil), Nandi Parvatas, Tarboche and holy mountain “Kailash”. One can feel himself/herself reinvigorated when s/he get into these areas.  Indeed, Mt. Kailash is not only magnificent one; it is also the conclusive pilgrimage destination for all Hindus and Buddhists. They believe that Kailash is the ultimate divine central point and thus, every year, thousands of Hindu/Buddhist devotees execute pilgrimage around Kailash to make their spiritual world easier.

It is believed that Lord Shiva resided at the summit 6638m of magnificent KAILASH for meditation together with his wife Parvatee. In accordance with Vishnu Puran the four faces of the Kailash are made of Lapis, Crystal, Gold and Ruby, which are pillar of the world that looks like a lotus.
